Baby Products: The Proper Care For Your Newborn

Your newborn is a child who may not talk at all or cry a lot, but he needs to be fed and kept comfortable and you need good baby products for that. You will probably be spending the first two weeks with your new baby in your arms, but as the weeks go by you will be starting to notice the changes in your baby. You may notice that he becomes lethargic or that he sleeps too much.

Baby care is an ongoing process for both you and your baby. If you have a newborn it will be an ongoing commitment. A newborn diaper change does not just involve changing the diaper but also a little more.

Newborns are warm to touch, so you need to gently pat them. They also require gentle handling for safety reasons. Soft, gentle touching of the skin and ears of your baby is required.

If your baby has an ear infection or is simply having trouble catching their breath, you should take a few minutes to check his ears. Make sure you check both sides of his head for blockages and properly clean them.

Babies can make soft noises when they are crying or trying to burp. Try to use your normal vocalizations while cleaning him, if you cannot do so safely then you can try softly singing or humming baby songs.

Newborns need solid foods and breast milk. Breast milk does a better job of nourishing your baby and making sure he grows at a faster rate, but you can feed him with rice cereal and fruit juice if you so choose.

Newborns eat a lot when they are hungry, so you should pick up some finger foods that are high in protein and fiber such as broccoli, Brussel sprouts, and peas. You can mix food around in your baby’s bottle as long as it is safe. While you do not want to introduce large amounts of solid food, you should be able to gradually introduce the following food into your baby’s diet.

Newborns tend to put a lot of time in sleeping, so it is important to keep the room dark and quiet. The best position for your newborn is upright with their tummy touching the edge of the crib mattress. They should not be laying down, but if they do, try to keep them to the side.

Before bringing your newborn home, you should make sure the room is clean and comfortable for them and pick up any improper clothing for them such as rags, towels, or blankets. This is especially important if your baby has an illness such as measles. Make sure to put them to sleep in a quiet room.

Newborns usually sleep a lot in the early weeks of their life, but they do learn how to adjust as they grow older and develop a sleeping pattern. Try to set your newborn up in a sleeping area they can sleep in comfortably and let them adjust. Don’t use blankets, pillows, or other furniture for baby’s comfort.

Baby bottles are easy to clean and will last longer. Many parents with small children find out that with a little elbow grease they can clean and sterilize their baby bottles in less than one minute! Be sure that you clean them before the next feeding.
