Babies Dressed Up: Kindness Day

Newborn Babies Dressed Up As Mr. Rogers For World Kindness Day

Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was a television show made for children, starring the one and only Fred Rogers. On 13th November 2019, all the newborn babies in the Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN’s) West Penn Hospital of Pittsburgh were dressed up in shirts and ties with red cardigans on top, the ensemble that Mr. Rogers fashioned on his television program for children. 13th November is World Kindness Day, and the babies were dressed up in such a fashion, to celebrate this day of kindness. This was because Mr. Rogers was a kind and compassionate man who taught the same values to the children who watched his television show on their sets at home.

How Did World Kindness Day Come About?

Every year on 13th November, the world celebrates World Kindness Day. This day is also called the National Acts of Kindness Day. There are tonnes of NGOs across the globe whose collective mission is to spread kindness around the communities of which they are part. These NGOs encourage people to be kind to each other, to commit a kind deed every day, or whenever you can. Kindness can be something as simple as smiling at someone walking past or passing a compliment to a stranger. All of these kindness NGOs came about and started the World Kindness Movement, which had the same agenda of all the NGOs combined – to make the world a better place by making it a kinder one. The World Kindness Movement aimed to bring different nations closer and together create a more compassionate world.

To enforce this, they decided to announce one day in the year as World Kindness Day, a day where people can be encouraged to make random acts of kindness, as the alternative name also suggests. While the mission was and is to incorporate and instill compassion in people across the world in general, World Kindness Day became a day where people are asked to make kind acts as a way to celebrate the day. This encourages them to further do more kind things in their lives, even for the rest of 364 days of the year.

Fred Rogers was a man who was very influential to little children when he had his own television program and everything. When children love your screen presence, it is easy to captivate them and inspire and influence them. Fred Rogers used this as a tool to spread the virtues of kindness and compassion to his young viewers, the children. He came on to set wearing a red cardigan and a shirt and a tie inside it. This was his signature style on the show, and it was, and still is, recognizable to everyone who ever watched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. They say that Rogers wore his red cardigan for almost every show because it was a cardigan his mother had made him. The same day as World Kindness Day, 13th November, is also called Cardigan Day in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as of the year 2019. All the newborn babies at an AHN Hospital in Pittsburgh were dressed up in the exact fashion of Fred Rogers, in red cardigans and neckties. In this way, the hospital celebrated World Kindness Day by honoring the famous Mr. Rogers in the absolute appropriate manner.
